It’s been a while since visiting Tonka and I am pleased to say I enjoyed it as much as the first time. Admitting up front, Indian food is not top of the list of my favourites, however dining at Tonka totally changes my perception of the cuisine. My dining companions and I loved the food and the service was top notch.
Lovely Vermentino from Heathcote
Pani Puri, Crispy Parcel Filled
With Spiced Potato, Mung Beans,
Date and Tamarind Chutney with Aromatic Water
Mustard Chicken Tikka from the Tandoor with Radicchio and Puffed Quinoa
Bengali Curry with John Dory, Spring Bay Mussels, Crystal Bay Prawns and Kalonji
Duck Korma, Apple and Vanilla Spiced Beetroot
Fried Cauliflower, Garam Masala Salt, Fenugreek and Yoghurt Dressing
Avani’s Lamb Curry with Roasted Coconut, Black Cardamom and White Poppy Seeds
Tonka’s Gulab Jamun with Saffron Syrup
and Silver Leaf
We also recently went here. I must admit I am used to home style Indian food and I was a little disappointed at the level of spice. But then again I personally cook with a very heavy hand spice wise.
