Bavarian-born baker and Elsternwick legend, this is Frank from Frank’s Bakery. This 80-year-old, passionate, hard-working, colourful character produces preservative free sourdough bread from a 500-year-old (ish) ‘sour’, sourdough starter. Given his heritage, most of the bread he produces consists of sourdough or rye with other treats such as fruit loaf, challah, pretzels and more. The shop is a no-frills area that hasn’t changed in all the years he and his wife, Elena, have been there ….. since 1968 actually!
