Eagerly awaiting the opening of Bang Bang a couple of days ago we decided to have lunch there. A great fit-out, the place was buzzing, perhaps many locals, like ourselves, wanting to try out the latest addition to the Glenhuntly Road strip. We ordered two dishes, one was a great hit and the other was a total miss. To focus on the positive, the Jasmine Rice Bowl w/Char-Grilled Chicken really hit the mark, however, the Tumeric Omelette, Bánh Xèo by any other name, was extremely disappointing. Without exaggeration, the pork in the dish was 95% unrendered fat, not BBQ’d as described on the menu and should not have left the kitchen. Inside the ‘omelette’ the raw rice flour batter was visible and not pleasant to eat. Hindsight is a great thing and I should have returned the dish immediately instead of resenting paying $17.50 for a virtually inedible meal. I realise it is very early days for the restaurant, however, there is absolutely no excuse for the kitchen sending out a dish of this standard.
